Kevin Durant earned his first ever NBA championship Monday night. It didn’t take long for Nike to air a commercial that ‘silenced’ KD haters.
Durant was recently a favorite villain by NBA fans for leaving the team that drafted him, the Oklahoma Thunders, and signed during off-season to the Golden State Warriors to form on what most people call, the super team.
Together with Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson they led the Golden State Warriors to a 67-15 Win-Loss record and 16-1 record in the NBA Playoffs.
Right after Game 5 of the NBA Finals, Nike released the 60-second ad called ‘Debate This’ that features a round table of critics highlighting Durant’s weaknesses and flaws from his Freshman year at Texas through his 2014 MVP season with the Thunder.
Right after it is announced in the ad that he’d signed with Golden State, the critics in the roundtable begin calling him a traitor, and images of Oklahoma City fans holding cupcake signs are shown in the background.
Nike ends the ad with Durant winning an NBA title – and the room goes silent.
